My name is Anika Sharma, and I am from South Brunswick New Jersey. I am currently a senior at South Brunswick High School, and am a teen volunteer for the Asha for Education Princeton Chapter. I was born in Bangalore, India, and was fortunate enough to live and learn there for seven years. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to attend school and receive a formal education, and to be part of an organization that furthers this cause is my greatest pride. Providing schooling for underprivileged children gives opens up a path to success for them, providing them with the assets to attain greater opportunities and become positively contributing members of society. I have been able to use social media and flyers to advocate and spread the message about this organization. I have also helped carry out our annual walk/run fundraising events, whether that be making posters, getting sign ups, or setting-up the stalls.
In addition to being an active member of this organization, I have also been a Bharatanatyam student at Tapasya Dance Academy for the past eight years. I also learned Hindustani classical singing at Svara Sangam for seven years. Indian culture has been embedded in me through my hobbies and lifestyle, and I am proud to be contributing to an organization that shares my values.
